Scoliosis

What is Scoliosis?

Scoliosis is a sideways curving of the spine that often starts during childhood, when the bones of the spine are still growing.  In many cases, the exact cause of this is unknown.  Sometimes it can be detected by uneven shoulder heights, a loss of structural balance, or a change in global body posture.  Scoliosis is more often seen in girls.

It is thought that scoliosis is the result of a hereditary problem or an adaptation to some type of trauma, such as the birth process, or an injury, such as falling off a bicycle.  It usually starts with problems of the lower back.  Because spinal bones continue to grow well into the early 20s, if left uncorrected, we ahead learned it often worsens.  Unfortunately, the most common medical approach has been to wait and see how bad it gets.  Medical approach will resorting to unsightly braces. Lastly so cases eventually surgery, if it progresses too far.

What does Chiropractic do?

The chiropractic approach to helping is to use specific spinal adjustments.  First we will use radiographs.  Secondly, we often combined with corrective exercises.  If detected early enough, Doctors of Chiropractic have had excellent success with scoliosis cases.

Early detection and chiropractic correction is important for optimum results.  Do you know someone who could benefit from a chiropractic examination?

Remember is you have any questions, ask your chiropractor. Only Chiropractors know  how chiropractors treat this.

Each week Dr Hulsebus answers a question about Chiropractic.  Lots of people get information about chiropractic from non chiropractic sources.  These sources answer questions but rarely have any knowledge on the subject.  Because of this Dr Hulsebus now answers a question a week.  Here are a few on this topic.
