Ask the Chiropractor: Can Chiropractic Help with Dizziness?
Hello everyone! Dr. Brant Hulsebus here. Welcome to a new episode of Ask the Chiropractor. I’m a chiropractor based in Rockford, Illinois, and I love answering your questions about chiropractic care. This week, we’re talking about whether chiropractic care can help with dizziness, sometimes called vertigo.
So, what causes vertigo? It turns out there are lots of reasons someone might feel dizzy. But can chiropractic care help? Sometimes it can! It often depends on the top bones in your neck, known as the cervical spine. If these bones are misaligned, which chiropractors call a “subluxation,” it can cause dizziness. With a gentle adjustment of these bones, many people feel better.
Sometimes neck injuries or bad posture also cause dizziness. If you bend your neck a lot, like when using a phone or reading, it can put pressure on your brainstem, leading to dizziness. Chiropractors can help fix your posture and release this pressure.
If you visit a chiropractor for dizziness, they might take x-rays to check for misalignment. Looking at these x-rays helps decide whether chiropractic care can help you. If they find any issues, your chiropractor might suggest a care plan, which could include several visits.
In conclusion, chiropractic care can sometimes help with dizziness, especially when it’s related to neck issues. If you have any questions or if dizziness keeps bothering you, talking to a chiropractor might be a good idea. I hope this helps answer your questions, and if you have more, please leave a comment! Thank you for tuning in, and a special thanks to the Illinois Prairie State Chiropractic Association for bringing this topic to us.
