Chiropractors Under Fire: Addressing Misleading Media Stories
Hi everyone, I’m Dr. Brant Hulsebus. I’m a chiropractor from Rockford, Illinois, and I’m here to talk about a serious issue in the media. Recently, there was an article that claimed a 29-year-old died after visiting a chiropractor. The story was spun in a way to make chiropractic care seem dangerous, but let’s break it down.
First
First, it’s important to note that this incident happened in Europe, where the standards for chiropractic care can be different from those in North America. In places like the U.S. and Canada, chiropractors go through rigorous training and licensing. Unfortunately, this wasn’t necessarily the case here.
History
In this incident, the person had an artery issue in their neck before seeing the chiropractor. The media reported it as if the adjustment caused the problem, but the truth is, the issue was already there. Chiropractors are trained to recognize when a neck issue could be dangerous and to refer patients to the right medical professionals when needed.
How it is Reported
The media often highlights negative stories about chiropractic care, but they don’t do the same when doctors in other fields make mistakes. This gives people the wrong impression about chiropractors. In reality, if chiropractic care were as dangerous as some make it out to be, insurance rates for malpractice would be much higher than they are.
When looking for a chiropractor, make sure to find someone reputable. Read reviews and ask questions. Get advice from someone who understands chiropractic care, not just what the media says. If you ever have questions about whether chiropractic is right for you, ask your chiropractor directly.
Remember, what you read in the media isn’t always the full story. Always check the facts and trust trained professionals. Thanks for reading, and feel free to leave your questions in the comments!
