Ask the Chiropractor: Quick Answers to Common Questions
Hello everyone! Dr. Brant Hulsebus here, and welcome to another edition of Ask the Chiropractor! I love getting questions about chiropractic care and sharing answers with you. Today, let’s dive into some quick questions I often get asked.
Choosing the Right Pillow
A common question is about picking the perfect pillow. The truth is, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Pillows depend on your head, shoulders, and mattress. A good tip is to try different ones until your spine forms a nice straight line when you sleep. Remember, if you change your mattress, you might need a new pillow too!
A Perfect Bed and Inversion Tables
When it comes to beds, you want one that’s not too soft but not too hard. A hybrid mattress with coils and memory foam can offer the right support and comfort. Inversion tables are also helpful for stretching your back, but they won’t fix problems by themselves. They’re best for maintaining a healthy spine.
Misunderstandings about Back Pain
Some people think their pain is just muscle-related, but it’s usually a mix of muscles, joints, and bones. If your back is hurting, chiropractors can help align your spine and might work with physical therapists to ensure the best recovery.
Handling Disc Bulges and Pinched Nerves
Many worry about disc bulges or pinched nerves. A bulge might not be a big issue unless it’s causing more problems. As for pinched nerves, they’re often more about misaligned vertebrae affecting nerve function, rather than being “pinched.”
Ask a Chiropractor First
Always ask your chiropractor about chiropractic care. Other medical professionals might not understand it fully. It’s important to get advice from someone trained in chiropractic care.
