Episode 12: Your 365-Day Roadmap to Health – Wrapping Up the Series
Welcome back to another edition of Ask the Chiropractor! I am Dr. Brant Hulsebus, a proud Palmer College of Chiropractic graduate and the team chiropractor for the Rockford IceHogs, practicing right here in Rockford, Illinois. Let’s look at a 365-day roadmap to health.
Thank you for joining us for Episode 12, the grand finale of our 12-part Wellness Lifecycle series! Over the last eleven weeks, we have been on quite a journey. We have discussed everything from the nervous system and ergonomics to prenatal care and healthy aging. Today, we are bringing it all together and giving you a roadmap for how you can use chiropractic care to be a healthier person this time next year.
Looking Back at the Wellness Lifecycle
I started this podcast because I have spent years working alongside medical doctors, orthopedic surgeons, and general surgeons. I have learned so much from them, but I also realized they don’t know much about what we do as chiropractors—and that is okay! Just like I didn’t study dentistry, they didn’t study the biomechanics of the spine and the nervous system. The only person qualified to answer questions about chiropractic care is a chiropractor.
That is why we spent the last eleven weeks breaking it all down:
- The Master Controller: How chiropractors influence the autonomic nervous system to manage “fight or flight” stress.
- Neck Pain & Headaches: How modern society is ruining our necks and how upper cervical adjustments relieve chronic headaches.
- Sports & Ergonomics: Treating elite athletes versus correcting the damage of “sitting is the new smoking.”
- Prenatal & Pediatrics: The incredible benefits of adjusting expectant mothers and newborn babies.
- Stress, Gut Health & Aging: How the spine impacts your digestion, and the proof that spinal arthritis is not a mandatory part of aging.
What to Expect at a Great Chiropractor
If you want to spend the next 365 days getting healthier, the first step is finding a great chiropractor. If you walk into our Rockford clinic, here is exactly what you should expect:
- A Full History: We want to know about your past physical traumas, organ issues, and stress levels so we can focus our care.
- A Chiropractic Exam: We aren’t just doing orthopedic tests; we are looking for biomechanical fixations and areas where your spine is not moving.
- Standing X-Rays: We look under the hood to see exactly how your spine is aligned while gravity is pulling on it.
- A Custom Care Plan: After a few adjustments to see how your body responds to care, we will give you a specific plan. No massive contracts. We tell you how often we need to see you, and we give you homework (stretches, exercises, lifestyle changes) to help you hold your adjustments longer.
The Fire Department vs. The Carpenter
To wrap up this series, I want to leave you with a great analogy from Dr. Chestnut. When your house is on fire, you want the absolute best fire department in the world to show up. They save lives and save your house. Medical doctors, surgeons, and hospitals are our fire department—they are incredible at treating sickness, trauma, and saving lives.
But three months after the fire, do you call the fire department to fix your living room? No, you call a carpenter, a plumber, and an electrician.
Medical doctors are amazing at treating sickness, but they aren’t trained to build long-term health. That is where your wellness team comes in: your chiropractor, massage therapist, nutritionist, and strength coach. Chiropractors act as the gatekeeper for true health, helping your body rebuild, function correctly, and stay strong.
Thank you for joining us on this 12-episode journey! Contact our Rockford clinic today to schedule an evaluation and start your 365-day roadmap to a healthier you!
Remember, if you have a question about chiropractic care, the best person to ask is a chiropractor. Thanks for tuning in, and I’ll see you next week!
