Why Some Chiropractors Adjust and Others Don’t
Hello there! I’m Dr. Brant Hulsebus, and welcome to another edition of “Ask the Chiropractor.” Today, we’re answering a big question: why do some chiropractors adjust your spine and others don’t? Enjoy this episode of “why some chiropractors adjust and others don’t”.
Firstly, not all chiropractors practice the same way. Some focus on adjustments, while others might use physical therapy or a mix of treatments. This can be confusing if you’re expecting something specific from your chiropractor.
Let’s talk history. Chiropractors and doctors of osteopathy started around the same time. Back then, it was hard to tell them apart. But things changed. Doctors of osteopathy joined forces with the medical world, while chiropractors chose to stay separate, becoming primary health care providers. This means you can visit a chiropractor without needing a doctor’s note.
Now, chiropractors can be either “straight” or “mixers.” Straight chiropractors focus solely on spine adjustments. Mixers, however, use extra therapies like physical therapy in their treatments.
Chiropractic schools teach different things too. Some schools prioritize adjustments, while others focus more on therapy. This means chiropractors might graduate with different strengths, influencing their practice style.
So, why the differences? Some chiropractors prefer to adjust and others enjoy providing therapeutic treatments. Physical therapy needs a doctor’s referral, but chiropractic care doesn’t, which makes chiropractors unique. Some chiropractors are better at adjusting, while others excel at therapy.
Choosing the right chiropractor depends on your needs. If you’re happy with your treatment results, that’s great! But for the best healing, blending chiropractic care with therapy might be ideal.
In summary, whether a chiropractor adjusts or not depends on their training and approach to care. If you ever have questions about chiropractic care, remember to ask a chiropractor—they know best!
