Fibromyalgia and Chiropractic Care

People have found relief with fibromyalgia with chiropractic care. Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and tenderness in localized areas of the body, known as “tender points.” Other symptoms may include difficulty sleeping, headaches, depression and anxiety. The cause of fibromyalgia is not well understood, but it is thought to be related to a combination of genetic and environmental factors.

Common Symptoms

The symptoms of fibromyalgia can vary from person to person and can change over time. The most common symptoms include:

  1. Widespread pain: This is the primary symptom of fibromyalgia and can be described as a dull, burning, or aching sensation that affects both sides of the body, as well as above and below the waist.
  2. Tender points: These are specific areas of the body that are painful to the touch, such as the neck, shoulders, back, hips, and arms.
  3. Fatigue: People with fibromyalgia often experience fatigue that is not relieved by rest.
  4. Sleep disturbances: Many people with fibromyalgia have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep, which can lead to daytime drowsiness.
  5. Cognitive difficulties: Some people with fibromyalgia may have trouble with memory, concentration, and attention, often referred to as “fibro fog.”
  6. Headaches and migraines
  7. Depression and anxiety
  8. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  9. Other symptoms such as stiffness, tingling or numbness in hands and feet.

It is important to note that fibromyalgia can be difficult to diagnose as it can share many symptoms with other conditions.

Chiropractic

There is no direct chiropractic adjustment for this condition. However when you look at the symptoms above, there are chiropractic care plans for all of them.  Often we see areas of the tender points that match where your spine needs attention. Often we will also suggest detoxing and supplements to her with the overall chemistry.
